What is a TED flare?
A TED flare is when TED symptoms appear again after a period of stability. In a study of 415 patients, 15.7% of patients experienced recurrent TED. Most of these cases occurred within the first 1O years after the first episode of TED.

Early diagnosis of TED and simple measures to prevent TED development or progression should be pursued.

Your TED treatment plan will be created to best fit your individual needs. It may include one or more of these treatment options:
Over-the-counter medications
- Eye drops to help lubricate your eyes and prevent dryness
- Selenium supplements if you have low levels of selenium in your blood
Home management
- Wearing special glasses or an eye patch to reduce double vision
- Taping your eyelids shut when you sleep to prevent dryness
Prescription treatments
- Steroids
- Anti-inflammatory medication
- Other medications
Eye surgery
- Depending on your specific situation, your doctor may discuss surgery options with you
