What is a TED flare?
A TED flare is when TED symptoms appear again after a period of stability. In a study of 415 patients, 15.7% of patients experienced recurrent TED. Most of these cases occurred within the first 1O years after the first episode of TED.

What Is Thyroid Eye Disease (TED)?
TED is an autoimmune disorder
TED is a condition where your immune system mistakenly attacks the muscle and fat tissue behind your eyes. This may cause inflammation and swelling, and potentially affect your vision.
TED may also be known as Graves’ eye disease, Graves’ orbitopathy or ophthalmopathy, thyroid-associated orbitopathy, or thyroid ophthalmopathy.
Some common signs and symptoms of TED may
include:
Pulled-back eyelids, or “eyelid retraction”
Eye bulging, or “proptosis” (prop-toe-sis) or “exophthalmos” (ek-sof-thal-muhs)
Misaligned eyes or eyes that do not work together, or “strabismus” (strah-biz-muss)
Double vision, or “diplopia” (dih-ploh-pee-uh)
Blurry vision
